Tucked away in the northwest corner of the Plante's Ferry Sports Complex, a small beach and swimming hole offers a nice place to swim on hot summer days. The beach is small and rocky and lives along a bend in the Spokane River east of downtown Spokane.

Above the beach, Plante's Ferry Park has broad green lawns, restrooms, picnic tables, and plenty of parking for visitors. Follow the trail past the park and across a wood bridge to reach the banks of the Spokane River. The river runs slowly here, but it's still a good idea to bring a flotation device if you plan to spend a long time in the water or wade out beyond where you can stand.

Unfortunately, this is not one of the more scenic swimming holes in Spokane Valley. A power line runs above the river where swimmers wade, and the beach is so small there isn't much place to put out a towel to sunbathe, an activity better suited for the lawns above.

This area can become very busy with families and visitors on hot summer days. Be sure to clean up after yourself and dispose of any trash in one of the many trash receptacles found in the park.
