The Methow Valley in Washington is a mecca for cross-country skiing in the U.S. The area boasts over 120 miles of accessible ski trails in and around the quaint town of Winthrop. Trails range in difficulty, providing plenty of options for novice visitors and seasoned trail veterans. Many of the trails are also accessible to hikers and bikers in the summer, making this spectacular valley at the edge of the Okanogan National Forest a year-round destination.

The Rolling Huts became a popular lodging option in the valley after they received some good publicity from travel articles and architectural magazines (the huts were designed by renowned architect Tom Kundig of the Seattle firm Olson Kundig Architects). The minimalist cabins feature the necessities: a kitchen, a mattress, a wood burning stove, an attached outhouse, and spectacular views in a great setting. There are six cabins, and though each comfortably fits two adults, modular furniture in the living area can easily be configured to fit two additional guests. Larger groups can opt to rent The Farm House, which features three bedrooms to sleep more guests. Also on site are the men's and women's changing and shower facilities and an outdoor barbeque space for enjoying good weather, warm or cold.

The Rolling Huts are 9 miles northwest of Winthrop, and they are very close to the ski trails down the road. The trails run for miles to the north and south of the valley and continue up Highway 20 in the winter to the Mount Baker area. All of the trails are well maintained, and conditions are easy to check through the Methow Valley Sports Trails Association (MVSTA).

Kelly's at Wesola Polana is a restaurant and bar located at the edge of the huts, and it's a good option for coffee, food, and drinks if you prefer not to make your own.
