Lake Dale Resort is one of San Juan Island's largest camping and resort areas with 82 acres and three lakes to enjoy. The resort is located only 4.8 miles from Friday Harbor and is the perfect blend of camping and resort-like atmosphere. Open from May through September, included in the available accommodation options are 45 tent sites, 23 canvas tents, seven RV campsites, six small cabins, one lake house, one Airstream, and 10 lodge rooms. To add to the options, the tent sites are divided into six types to ensure every visitor has the experience they are looking for; classic campsites, lakeside campsites, family campsites (slightly larger to accommodate larger tents), lakeside family campsites, double family campsites (even larger for groups traveling together), and hike-in/bike in campsites for those traveling the island by foot or bike. Though this campground is ideal for a family getaway, there are plenty of options for those seeking a quieter experience in the woods while still enjoying the amenities of the resort.

Lake Dale’s campground boasts three calm swimming areas as well as paddle boats, row boats, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and canoes for rent. Visitors can fish for bass and trout in the well-stocked lakes (Lakedale fishing permit required). In addition to the water activities, there's always something happening to keep the kids entertained. Play a game of lawn chess on the giant chess set, try your hand at ping pong, bocce ball, or horseshoes, or sit back and enjoy the bird life in the area. Make tie-dye shirts (a Lakedale tradition), learn how to paddle board, paint your own birdhouse, create crazy jewelry, and take a campfire cooking class. The General Store is the hub for the summer activity, and your go-to spot for a morning latte, pre-made items ready to barbecue, a fishing license and even bait.

Though the resort has enough to keep you busy all day long, San Juan Island has a lot to offer in terms of hiking, biking, kayaking and whale watching. Be sure to take a trip over to Lime Kiln Point State Park to watch for orcas and visit the lighthouse.
