Topping out at 5,700 feet, Table Mountain rises high above the Artist Point parking lot for incredible North Cascade views. To the west, 10,781-foot Mount Baker dominates the skyline on clear days. Mount Shuksan, said to be one of the most photographed mountains in the world, stands to the east. Though this trail may be steep, the greatest challenge is deciding where to point your camera.

Table Mountain Trail begins between meadow and snowfield. Switchback up the rocky half-mile path to the summit for a welcome escape from Artist Point’s notorious crowds. Many photo-seekers are intimidated by the plateau’s sheer appearance and opt for Artist Ridge Trail instead. Don't come looking for solitude on weekends, however; this is still a popular trail. Watch your step along the way, especially if the route is snowy. Loose rocks and stone steps pave the path. Children should be kept nearby at all times.

Up top, gaze at the surrounding peaks from your cairn-decorated tabletop perch. Bagley Lakes and the entire Heather Meadows trail system is visible from up here. Hikers can wander for a mile west along the plateau to view snowfields and get a little closer to Mount Baker. The trail ends after 1.5 miles, seemingly at the top of the world.
