Walupt Lake is one of the more sizable accessible lakes in Goat Rocks Wilderness. Surrounded by a high ridgeline and forests with a mix of deciduous and conifer trees, winter snows collect in the basin that feeds Walupt Creek and merges with the Cispus River downstream at Walupt Creek Falls. Although Mount Adams and the higher peaks of Goat Rocks are very close, they are not visible from the lake. A hike up Nannie Peak or along the lake to the PCT, both of which leave from the campground, offer incredible views of the geography in which Walupt Lake sits.

The lake is incredibly clear and it deepens quickly from the shore. Exploring the shoreline by boat, you'll find many stream inlets from the surrounding peaks flowing into the lake through shrubs and brush. Migrating waterfowl and osprey frequent the waters and surrounding perches. Fishing opportunities abound near shore and especially in the area near the boat launch where the lake runs under a bridge and into Walupt Creek.

The boat launch at the western end of the lake is part of the Walupt Lake Campground. There are a few camping sites along the lake near the boat launch, but the rest of its shore is lined by forests and steep hills running up to the surrounding ridgeline. Sunset on the lake is beautiful, when Lakeview Mountain catches the last light of the day as the smoke and flames of campfires start across the lake on its western edge.
