Situated next to 7,000 acres of petrified forest known as Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park, Wanapum Recreation Area is a great camping site in the arid portion of Eastern Washington. Formed by the carvings of the ice age floods, this area offfers some amazing views of basalt hills and sagebrush. A power station sits on the horizon and spans across the Columbia River.
This can be a nice getaway if you're looking for a short drive from Seattle metro area. The campground offers tent- and RV-friendly sites with facilities such as a swimming area, well-maintained landscaping, and bathrooms for showers.
With museums that detail the history of this area and the formation of petrified forests, this is a great kid-friendly camping area.
