Glade Creek Campground is one of the eight primitive campgrounds in the New River Gorge National Scenic River. The campground is nestled alongside the powerful New River and the bubbling Glade Creek, providing fishing and hiking opportunities. The sound of the rivers is always present. The lower trailhead for the Glade Creek Trail takes off from the campground. Glade Creek has numerous pools and small falls along its hemlock- and rhododendron-lined trail. It is 5.6 miles long and connects to the Kates Falls, Kates Plateau, and Polls Plateau Trails.
Glade Creek Campground is at the end of the 6-mile improved dirt road that is suitable for any car and mid-sized RV if you are willing to carefully work your way around the numerous potholes. There are five walk-in and five mid-sized or smaller RV and tent sites. The best campsite is the first site.
Glade Creek Campground has a small boat ramp and dispersed picnic ground. It has centrally located vault toilets with a smell suppression system that works well. It is open year-round and has handicap-accessible camping and picnic sites. In the summer, Glade Creek Campground is usually the last of the eight drive-in primitive campgrounds to fill up. There is no cell phone coverage. In low waters of summer, the pools of Glade Creek can be waded in; the New always has a swift current and is a dangerous river for swimming.
