Located near the Upper Geyser Basin along the Firehole River, the Biscuit Basin may not have the “wow” factor of Old Faithful or the Morning Glory Pool, but it is a beautiful spot with great thermal features. As a bonus, the trailhead for the nice and easy Mystic Falls Trail is located at the back of Biscuit Basin for those who want to get away from the boardwalks and see some of the lovely backcountry in Yellowstone National Park.

From the parking area, a trail crosses the river, showing off some brightly colored streams flowing down the bank. The short boardwalk trail loops through several pools and small geysers. The Sapphire Pool has had a history of violent eruptions, but it has been quiet since 1968. It is a marvelously clear blue pool that still occasionally boils and sputters. The Jewel Geyser is another feature worth watching in this basin because it erupts every five to 10 minutes in a pretty impressive 10- to 30-foot column of water and steam. For those with more time, there is a trail from Biscuit Basin to the Upper Geyser Basin with some nice features along the way.
