North Fork Campground

Buffalo Bill State Park, while primarily a motorized water recreation destination, has a spectacular campground at the point where the North Fork of the Shoshone River enters the reservoir. This campground is popular with locals and can make a great (but distant) base camp for visiting Yellowstone National Park or the nearby old west town of Cody.

The campground is arranged on two loops, one small loop along the river and one larger loop up on a plateau above the river. The larger loop has some sites that can be reserved, which have electric and water hookups. The same loop has several additional first-come, first-served sites that have either electric and water, electric only or no hook ups. The small loop has no hookups at the sites.

This campground has very nice views of the surrounding mountains and hills, with a distant view of the lake. The sites are arranged around a huge grassy area with a playground, and there is a tremendous feeling of spaciousness and privacy from all the sites. A few of the lower loop sites have river access and views nearby.

It is a 20-minute drive to Cody, which boasts a highly-recommended museum complex, nightly rodeos in the summer and frequent special events.
