Right across the road from the parking area for Tower Falls and the small general store is one of Yellowstone National Park’s seven campgrounds managed by the National Park Service (the other five are managed by a concessionaire and are available by reservation). Tower Falls Campground is one of the three smallest campgrounds in Yellowstone and is only for tent campers, vans, small trailers, or truck campers.

Tucked into a hillside a quarter-mile from the main road, Tower Falls Campground is a homey rustic campground that looks much as it must have looked over 50 years ago. Sites are spread around one long loop that climbs a short way up a hill, so many sites are not very level. There are vault toilets and drinking water, but generators are not allowed at all.

The Tower Junction area is a great location with wildlife-rich Lamar Valley just a short drive away and the Canyon and Mammoth Hot Springs areas a short distance as well (by Yellowstone standards). The Lost Lake Loop is a wonderful moderate hike only a few miles away.

As with all of Yellowstone’s first-come, first-served campgrounds, it is essential to arrive early from mid-June through Labor Day.
