This hike is absolutely a loop. Below I will tell you the trails I used to make this a loop.
1.) Start at the Escalante River Trailhead which is very close to downtown Escalante. The TH is a few hundred yards down a dirt road off Highway 12 just East of town.
2.) From this TH, get on the Boulder Mail Trail. This can be hard to find. I used 'Gaia GPS' to help me locate the trail. Hike the Boulder Mail Trail East towards Boulder until it descends into Death Hollow Canyon itself.
3.) Once in Death Hollow, hike it downstream, which will take a day, to the confluence with the Escalante River.
4.) Once on the Escalante River, hike upstream back to the car. This portion takes about half a day.
Hope this helps.
