Another great place in part of the vast Gulf Islands National Seashore is Fort Pickens. It's across 2 bridges from Pensacola. Good campgrounds, cool fort and other battlements to explore, nice little nature trails, and beautiful beaches to walk along.
Just FYI, there are 6 springs west of Tallahassee. Two of them - Vortex and Morrison - are popular diving spots. Ponce de Leon Springs State Park is a wonderful place for families to go. Only $4/car load entrance fee. Picnic tables, bath houses, and crystal clear water.

Absolutely stunning place. But do be careful. Some of the edge is undercut and you can't tell from above. Before you venture out "just a little more" to get that perfect shot try to see the area you plan to walk on from a side view. You just might discover that the seemingly solid rock isn't as thick and sturdy as you thought.
Thanks for this. The first week of June, 2019 we're flying our 11-year-old grandson out to join us for his first trip to Yellowstone (our 4th). He's been asking to go since he was 3 and saw some of our photos and asked, "Where is that? I want to go there." Looking forward to introducing to the wonder of our national parks.
My husband and I had the privilege of hiking The Wave in May, 2006. For almost 2 hours we were the only ones there. Absolutely amazing, special place.
Even in mid-May temps were in the high 90s. Take more water than you think you'll need and enjoy any shade you can find.
