Yes you can park your car at Pacific City on the beach in one limited area by Pelican Pub--definitely a surfing, party, people-watching scene on Labor Day Weekend when we were there. Mornings are quite quiet though! I ran to the outlet of the Nestucca River and back and found quite a bit of solitude along the way--although at a certain point, some cars do enter the beach and drive to the river outlet. Fortunately--not too many. I like beaches nonmotorized --for peace and quiet and for giving wildlife a break.

Stunning sites on the lake indeed, and some with amazing views of Paulina Peak. Highly recommended. Yes, there will be people on a weekend even in fall, but when we left on a Sunday, almost the entire campground was empty. The Little Crater trail up is outstanding for an easy loop with views of the lava fields, lake, and peaks.

After the campground closes for the season in mid-September, you can stay for free. We had the whole end to ourselves on a weekend. Loved hiking upriver on the trail, watching kayakers head down the Metolius, and gatherings of yellow-rumped warblers in the trees and shrub.

Just back from camping at North Waldo Campground and a dramatic run in clouds and rain on Saturday afternoon--loving the contrast of the burn and the forest, and so many fall colors. There were very few people braving the weather that worsened to a steady downpour last night and this morning. As always, being out and dressing for the weather made it so worthwhile--maybe better sometimes than a sunny day. I kept stopping to take photos of the glowing red fall colors and so many contrasts. The burn is nature's art gallery.
