My partner and I did this hike very late in the evening. It was last year and I think we started the hike around 5 or 6pm. There was only one other couple that was at the Falls taking photos.
We let them have their peace and then we decided to climb down. It's all sandstone and brittle (if I remember correctly) so please be careful and use caution if you decide to hike down to the beach.
By the time we left, it was pitch black around 8pm. We were both perplexed because we heard animal noises in the dark and then saw one glowing eye in the middle of the path back to the parking lot.... but fret not! It was only a bird, haha! I really enjoyed this hike and think you will too if you go a little later in the day to catch the sunset.
