To Howard - Today's herd in Wind Caves NP originated from only 20 bison, some of which were from Yellowstone's herd. In most regards, they are genetically similar. They have higher genetic diversity to other plains bison. A few other areas in North America technically have wild populations of plains bison including Pink Mountain and Prince Albert National Park in Canada and the Henry Mountains in Utah.

Lovely quick hike to a waterfall on the east side of the park. I agree with the original post - parking is very limited. Be prepared to wait or take a shuttle.

Great post! It is so important for us to recognize that the land we love is, in fact, stolen land.
A potential con for hikers is that the trail is traveled by horse parties coming from the Roosevelt Corrals. Be prepared to wait if you encounter one so the procession can pass.

Predatory bear activity has prompted a hard-side only restriction at this campground since 6/30/18. No tents allowed.
- 9 min. hot showers are available for purchase from the nearby campstore. Ask for a shower token. Follow the signs for public showers behind the Motor Inn.
- There are designated campsites (reservations, & walk-ups) strictly for backpackers with no cars.
