I don't know that this campground is first-come no-reservation any longer. I was able to reserve a space last night via recreation.gov
This was one of the hotter and smokier days during fire season we've had and Shevlin was clear and cool. While we did encounter a couple people, there were far fewer this weekend than we've seen in the past (possibly due to the smoke). The park is big enough that you're never fighting for space.

There are some wonderfully gnarled trees along the trails.
Shevlin is pretty temperate throughout the Summer. During some of the smokier days due to wildfires, we were able to breathe deep and clean at Shelvin. In 100 degree weather, the water was still chilly and wonderful.
