This mile and a half long round-trip hike leads visitors to Morgan Falls in northern Wisconsin. This waterfall is quite unique in that it follows crevices in a moss-covered rock wall as it makes a 70-foot drop. This trail is located in the Morgan Falls St. Peter's Dome Recreation Area which is part of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The trailhead parking lot is located west of the town of Mellen and south of the city of Ashland on Ashland Bayfield Road. There is a $5 day use fee per car to use the Morgan Falls St. Peter's Dome Recreation Area. Interagency passes can also be used. There is a vault toilet located near the trailhead. This recreation area is open from sunrise until sunset. Dogs are allowed on the trail, but must be on a leash that is 6 feet in length or less.

The trail to the falls is a well maintained wide crushed gravel path that is easy to follow. The trail is quite level and has a boardwalk and bridge that makes it a great family hike. At the 0.6 mile mark the trail splits. The trail to the left leads to the top of St. Peter's Dome which is a large granite outcropping that provides breathtaking views of Chequamegon Bay of Lake Superior and the distant Apostle Islands. This two-mile one-way hike is much more rugged than the hike to Morgan Falls. To reach the falls, head straight for another 0.2 miles. Morgan Falls can be viewed from many angles and is a favorite waterfall for photographers. After viewing the waterfall, return the way you came or extend your hike to include St. Peter’s Dome.
