Don't let the name "Beach of the Dead" scare you away from this slice of paradise on the Sayulita Shore. Playa Los Muertos is a perfect pocket of sand tucked in a rocky cove among seaside forest and tide pools. Though there are homes and resorts nearby, the area is removed from the main part of town and much less crowded.
At this beach you can enjoy swimming and wading in gentle waves. The water is calmer here than at the other beaches because of a natural breakwater formed by the peninsula. The tide pools are great for wading at low tide and snorkeling at high tide, and you'll find an abundance of shelled creatures and colorful little fish.
The beach is so named because of the nearby cemetery, and a solemn walk among the gravestones should be a part of the experience here. In local culture, time spent with the dead is supposed to be soothing. Brightly decorated graves beneath the shady canopy are meant to be pleasant places to gather with loved ones, both alive and passed, and the special enchantment of this beach is perhaps lent by the spirits who watch over it.
