The Weir Canyon Loop is a straightforward loop path tracing the hills above the Anaheim Hills/Santiago Oaks Regional Park area. While the area is bordered by housing subdivisions along three sides, the open spaciousness of the area will make you feel far away from the suburban area just down the hill.

The appeal here is the wide views and vistas, which offer glances to the rugged backcountry of the mountains around Silverado Canyon. The trail is rocky dirt, and is clear to follow, with several smaller paths offering shortcuts if you're not up for the full loop. Additionally, the trail network connects to the high trails of the Santiago Oaks area, which allows hikers to connect a large number of trails and areas.

Hiking the loop in a clockwise direction will begin with a large climb to the high point of the hike, the path then descends until reaching a water tower near the northern end of the path. The second half of the trail is a lot of smaller climbs and drops within the canyon. While it makes no difference which direction the trail is hiked in, it does seem that clockwise seems to be the more popular direction.

The route tends to be hard dirt, slick in some spots. Wild flowers can often be seen here during the spring season. Overall, the path would be an easy to moderate though with a fair amount of elevation gain. There is no shade along the way and no water at the trail, so hikers should come prepared.

The Weir Canyon Loop trail is open daily from 7am until sunset. There are no amenities of any kind located at the trail or trailhead. The trailhead is located at the top of S. Hidden Canyon Rd, there is plenty of curbside parking near the trailhead - be sure to obey No Parking signs. Hikers should be aware that there are frequent mountain lion sightings in this area.
