This hike links together the only two trails in Petrified Forest State Park, the Petrified Forest Trail and the Sleeping Rainbows Trail.  There is a $10 fee to enter the park.  From the day use parking lot, follow the trail up a steep slope. Once on top the trail is flat and easy.  Some of the petrified wood is marked but there is many more large sections laying along side the trail.

Both trails are loops on their own with a short connecting trail between the two.  Follow the connector trail to the Sleeping Rainbows trail.  This trail descends a steep slope with a more consentration of petrifed wood.  The trail loops around with a nice view point of the canyon below.

The Sleeping Rainbows trail ends back at the connector trail.  Return to the parking lot from the other  side of the petrified forest trail to complete the loop.
