Wesser Bald is a popular short hike that leads to the namesake summit (4,616’) that features a large observation tower with an open deck. The hike begins from the trailhead off Otter Creek Road at Tellico Gap.

From the trailhead you’ll follow the Appalachian Trail as it begins climbing through the forest. Continue until you reach the summit ridge. A short side trail to the right then leads to the observation tower.

The tower features a large wooden observation deck that is a perfect place to relax, picnic or lounge in the sun.

The 360 degree view is nothing short of spectacular as the Southern Appalachia stretch for miles in every direction beneath you.

Once you’ve finished your time atop the tower you can return the way you came back to the trailhead, or continue straight on an unofficial but commonly used route back to Tellico Gap.
