The Wildlife Loop is a gravel path that forms the largest publicly accessible trail within the Modoc National Wildlife Refuge.

The gravel path begins at a signed trailhead off of the main paved road to the refuge visitor center. Some park maps mark portions of this trail as the Auto Tour Loop, and the path is accessible to vehicles, though very little traffic makes its way to this corner of California. The trail follows a generally flat route that gradually circles Teal Pond. Several benches and interpretive signs lie along the way, and the sheer amount of nesting and migratory birds that make their home in the wildlife refuge is the biggest draw.

At just over a mile in, signs mark the fork with the Kaye Johnson Wildlife Trail, which can be added onto this loop path to explore a further section of wildlife refuge.

After completing most of a circle around Teal Pond, the path meets up with the main paved road, and a short detour can take you to explore the Visitor Center, or you can continue along the paved road, where a few more benches and interpretive signs offer info on the birds that make their home inside Modoc National Wildlife Refuge.

Modoc National Wildlife Refuge is open daily from 7am until sunset. The Visitor Center may keep different hours.
