Rainbow Falls Trailhead to PCT/JMT via Fish Creek Trail (39.1 miles)

This 39.1-mile route offers a rewarding mix of waterfalls, alpine lakes, and iconic Sierra scenery. Starting at Rainbow Falls Trailhead, the trail follows the Lower Rainbow Falls Trail, passing by stunning cascades before connecting with the Fish Creek Trail (south). From here, the route climbs steadily to meet the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) / John Muir Trail (JMT) heading north.

Route Overview
Begin at Rainbow Falls Trailhead and hike along the Lower Rainbow Falls Trail. Continue onto Fish Creek Trail, which heads south through mixed forest and meadow landscapes, steadily rising in elevation. After several miles, join the PCT/JMT heading north.

Along the way, you’ll pass several intersecting trails, offering opportunities to alter your route or explore additional areas.

Lake Virginia and Purple Lake provide scenic and peaceful spots for rest or camping before continuing your journey along the PCT/JMT.
