Kahe Beach Park, also known as Electric Beach, is a small, sandy beach located on the western Waianae coast an hour from Honolulu. It is a popular destination, especially on weekends, where picnickers, body boarders, snorkelers, and scuba divers all flock to enjoy the tropical waters and abundant marine life. There is a designated parking lot, and it does fill up during peak hours. Extra parking along the grass has been observed, but it is not recommended. There are bathroom facilities, a covered picnic patio, and freshwater rinse stations. The beach itself is narrow, which can focus some of the wave energy; however, beyond the shallows and breaking waves there is an extensive reef system parallel to shore that is perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving as well. Directly out from the beach are two massive outflow pipes that deliver hot water from the nearby power plant (hence the name, Electric Beach). This warm water attracts many schooling and tropical marine fish as well as turtles, spotted eagle rays, and the occasional pod of dolphins. Electric Beach is also a popular tourist destination, as boat charters can often be seen mooring by the outflow pipes.
Check the surf/surge reports before entering the water as wave swell can be large and dangerous at times. Avoid the outflow water discharge, as it can forcefully push weaker swimmers far from shore.
