Getting to the Kettle River Highbanks Overlook is a pleasant ¼ mile walk through the woods. To get to this trail, it is about a nine mile drive from the park office through the forest. Most of this drive is on a well maintained gravel road. There is a parking area that accommodates four cars by the road. The trail to the Highbanks is quite level and wide which makes it suitable for nearly all ages and abilities.

There is an observation deck with an informational sign above the river at the end of this hike. Here one can view the Highbanks, an area of exposed bedrock. There are also picnic tables at this location. From here one can hike a trail that runs along the river for a few miles in either direction.
