This trail can be accessed from either the Bearpen Gap Overlook and Craggy Gardens Picnic Area or the Craggy Gardens Visitor Center. Both routes are 1.4 miles round trip, although approaching from the visitor center requires only 200 feet of elevation gain. Both areas have water fountains and restrooms, and each offers impressive views.
The trail features mixed hardwoods and rhododendrons, and there is a wide meadow near the summit that is often filled with wildflowers and lined with blueberries. A large shelter near the summit provides respite from sun and rain (though not the wind), and a small overlook area with benches has been built up with natural stone.
While the main trail is clearly marked and well maintained, don't be afraid to stray, following the small footpaths that weave their way through the forest. They often lead to interesting trees to climb, overlooks, and in one case, an old gazebo.
If you have time for more hiking after the pinnacle, check out nearby Craggy Pinnacle.
