Todd Ridge sits northwest of Mount Bachelor and rises a modest 700 feet above Todd Lake. The shaded east and northeast aspect is popular among backcountry skiers, and it holds Central Oregon's dry snow long after a storm.

The approach is a straightforward 2-mile skin along the Todd Lake cross-country ski trail. Once you reach the wilderness boundary on the south end of the lake, skin along the west side of the lake and begin uphill travel through the gentle glades.

The longest runs drop a modest 700 vertical feet, which is long enough to be able to enjoy the ride down but short enough to lap all day. As you approach from Todd Lake, skin up the gentle glades on the south end of the ridge. These glades are great for laps. Alternately, if you're looking for something more adventurous, continue along the ridge. As you work north and northeast you'll notice the lines go from tight and steep tree skiing to fun mini-golf cliff lines called "Little AK."  Be aware these areas slide often and can be very wind loaded.

Backcountry Safety

Winter backcountry adventures can be dangerous outdoor activities that pose significant risks as conditions affecting safety (i.e. weather, snowpack stability, avalanche hazard) are constantly changing. Prior to engaging in these activities each individual should get the proper training to make safe decisions and be equipped to use avalanche safety resources and tools. Please visit our Backcountry Skiing and Avalanche Safety post to learn more.
