Split Rock Lighthouse State Park is one of a number of Minnesota state parks that have cart-in campsites for tent camping. Carts with bicycle wheels, much like those that are found at marinas, are available to haul your gear. At Split Rock Lighthouse State Park there are 20 cart-in sites located near Lake Superior. Two of the sites are wheelchair accessible. Firewood is available for sale at the park office. Dogs on a leash are allowed in the campsites. Parking for the cart-in sites is located at the end of the park road past the Trail Center and the Pebble Beach Picnic Area. The greatest distance from the parking area to a site is 2000 feet.
Most sites offer great privacy in a heavily wooded area. Many of the sites are close to the rocky shores of Lake Superior. There is a bench and access to shore between sites 11 and 12.
Each site has a fire ring, a picnic table, and a bear-proof storage locker. There are two vault toilets located at this campground. There is also a shower building near the parking lot; fresh drinking water is available there. These sites are available year-round, but carts are not available during the winter months.
In addition to the camping fees, there is a fee to enter the park; a day use or annual permit can be purchased at the park office. All the sites can be reserved online or by phone.
A map of the campground can be found here.
