The Shantz and Mica View Loop is an easy trail located in the Rincon Mountain District of Saguaro National Park. This loop explores the Sonoran Desert and provides beautiful mountain views. This hike is 2.6 miles long and gains 117 feet of elevation.

This hike begins at Broadway Trailhead off of E Broadway Boulevard in Tucson, Arizona. This trailhead is just outside of Saguaro National Park, but has very little parking and no amenities.

Begin hiking south and you will shortly reach a junction. Go right here to take Shantz Trail. The trail is very well-marked throughout. You will now be hiking gradually uphill as you walk amongst saguaro’s, cholla, and various other Sonoran Desert plants. Along Shantz Trail, you will also have views of the Rincon Mountains. After 1.3 miles, you will have reached the highest point of the hike. This is also a junction. Go left to take Mica View Trail.

The Mica View Trail offers stunning views of the Santa Catalina Mountains. The first 0.6 miles of this trail is paved. At the end of the paved portion of trail, you will find Mica View Trailhead. This trailhead has shaded picnic tables and a vault toilet. There are also charcoal grills. From here, continue on Mica View Trail. After 0.7 miles, you will reach Broadway Trailhead.

The Shantz and Mice View Loop is open year-round and has no fee if parking at Broadway Trailhead. Dogs are only allowed on the paved portion of this hike.. This trail can get very hot and there are not any reliable water sources on this hike, so be sure to bring plenty of water.
