The Anaheim Coves Interpretive Trail is a paved, accessible multi use path situated along the Santa Ana River that offers a peaceful, if crowded, out and back route.
The trail remains paved over its entire course, however there are small sections of sandy track veering off of the main path along the way leading to benches and interpretive signs, some with views across holding ponds along the river which are popular areas for birds to feed or rest in.
The path remains generally flat, and does have a tendency to get busy between 5pm and sunset. You'll likely encounter a number of trail users, from walkers, runners, bicyclists and dog walkers on the path.
The Interpretive Trail runs between Frontera Street and Ball Road, with a large playground area and covered benches located in Explorer's Cove Park near the Frontera Street trail entrance. However there is only curbside parking near the Frontera entrance. The two easiest dedicated parking lots for the path are on the south side of Lincoln Ave and another strip of parking spots if you follow the Islands Golf Center driveway past their parking area.
Bathrooms are located at the Ball Road and Lincoln Ave parking areas. Distances are 1.6 miles from the Ball Road trailhead to the Lincoln Ave parking area, and .85 miles from the Lincoln Ave parking area to Frontera Street, adding up to a 4.9 mile roundtrip distance for covering the entire length.
The Anaheim Coves Interpretive Trail is open daily from sunrise to sunset. This peaceful trail is a great example of municipal utilities working to create centrally accessible user friendly scenic areas and green space in urban environments.
