The Roadrunner Loop is one of several designated trails that lie within Irvine Regional Park.
At 1.8 miles, the loop path follows a route with only 45' of total elevation gain along a dirt course that tends to be popular with hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers. One of the reasons for this popularity is that the north end of the loop offers access to the larger trail network that traverses the Anaheim Hills and Santa Ana Mountains.
Sticking to the loop, however will lead hikers on a dirt path that heads into the semi arid landscape at the fringes of Orange County's development. The path is mostly easy, though contains very little shade. It tends to follow several forks that weave through the brush. Some forks are signed while others are not, however most forks lead back to the same areas.
Hikers should be aware that the surrounding network of trails are popular with mountain bikers, and there are numerous blind curves on this path, so best to be aware.
The hike begins at the north side of Irvine Regional Park near the intersection with a service road. It's not immediately clear where the path is, as multiple single tracks cross paths here, however once joining the loop to the left of the private property sign up the service road, then it's an easy trail to follow.
This hike sits within Irvine Regional Park and is subject to park hours and entry fees.
