This loop hike is in Lake Louisa State Park.  There is no parking at the trailhead.  On the main park road, follow to the end at the campgrounds.  There is parking spots betwee Dixie Lake and Hammond Lake.  To reach the trailhead, walk about a 1/4 mile back up the road to forest road on the left.  There is a gate that can be passed on either side.  In a short distance this access trail ends.

At the trail junction, turn left toward Hammond Lake.  The trail is wide and follow a grass path.  At the far side of Hammond Lake is some deep sand.  Keep left and follow the shoreline of Hammond Lake.  The trail continues toward a residential area and turn sharply left down toward Dixie Lake.  Though this section of Dixie Lake there is signage to be aware of Alligators in the area.  After about 2.3 miles from the trailhead, the trail turns away from Dixie Lake traveling north and crosses the main park road.

The trail follows a side road for about 1/2 mile until it enters the forest on the left.  This section is well shaded with Live Oak covered in spanish moss.  After about 1 mile, the trail exits the forest into open field with full sun exposure. Many prickly pear cactus through this area.  The trail follows swaths of cut grass to complete the loop back at Hammond Lake.
