Midgard Base Camp is a lodging facility in South Iceland, about 90 minutes from Reykjavík, that offers a variety of sleeping options and has plentiful amenities.

Midgard Base Camp was created and constructed by the crew behind Midgard Adventure, an adventure tour and travel agency, and their passion for the region and the needs of a more social and adventurous demographic of travelers is clear. Travelers to Midgard are greeted by a warm, spacious atmosphere with a restaurant and full bar that includes plentiful seating with everything from couches to large bean bags to hanging swinging chairs. There is a foosball table and stage and screen for performances and movie showings.

All sleeping accommodations are upstairs, with options to rent a bed in or four- or six-person dorm room, a family room that contains a double bed and a bunk bed, or a private bedroom and attached private bathroom.

Midgard has a modern feel, with clean facilities. Numerous showers and hairdryers are offered, along with a rooftop deck with a sauna and a hot tub that remains open 24 hours a day. The deck and hot tub make a great place to see the stars or the Northern Lights at night, with views stretching to Seljalandsfoss Waterfall during the day. The restaurant offers dinner and breakfast options.

Swimsuit and boot dryers are available, along with a fridge in which guests are welcome to store food. As of our visit, a kitchen available for guest use was under construction but was not completed yet.

Midgard's location is central to visiting some of the volcanoes, glaciers, black sand beaches, waterfalls, and hikes in the area, and their distant proximity from any cities large enough to create light pollution help ensure more ideal conditions for seeing starry night skies or the aurora borealis when conditions cooperate. Additionally, Midgard Base Camp offers rentals of normal and fat tire bicycles, as well as package deals if booking one of their adventure travel tours in South Iceland.

The accommodation was built by individuals who are passionate about South Iceland, and their work in creating an adventure tour company and lodging facility to accommodate travelers wanting comfort and a social atmosphere is apparent.
