Boca del Rio Beach sits at the mouth of a waterway that connects the sea on the west side of Ambergris Caye to that on the east side. The public beach itself has a parking area, basketball court, play structure, and wide sandy area next to the Caribbean shore. Boca Del Rio also refers to the area of beach that stretches south from here for about a half-mile along Boca del Rio Road, alongside which is an area of calm, shallow, and scenic water. While legally all beach area and docks are to be publically accessible on Ambergris Caye, there are some beaches that are more inviting than others. One of these is the stretch of beach along Boca Del Rio Road.

The Boca del Rio area is great for families, as golf carts can be parked anywhere and visitors have their choice of picturesque, colorful coves to wade into. The area itself can be reached by golf cart in less than 5 minutes from the center of San Pedro Town. One popular spot is the area in front of Sandy Toes Beach Bar, where the bar puts out chairs, tables, and a stable of float tubes for patrons to sip their island drinks while floating in the calm waters. In fact, the public beach seems far less popular than the roadside shore where families would play in the water. Just be aware of golf cart traffic along Boca Del Rio Road.

Ambergris Caye beach rules: In Belize, the rules are such that while private residences and businesses may have beachfront land, the shoreline 60 feet from the water belongs to the government and people of Belize and is to remain publicly accessible along with all docks for public foot use between sunrise and sunset. While erosion is a factor, and some will put up Private and No Trespassing signs, this is the spirit of beach access in Belize. Also, while anyone can access the beaches or docks, this access does not apply to things such as structures, hammocks, or chairs.
