Christopher’s Loop offers what is perhaps the single best view of Lake Tahoe. That’s a bold statement, but the incredible view down to Sand Harbor Beach and across the entire lake is truly spectacular. The difficulty is in reaching the viewpoint. It requires a long hike in on the Tahoe Rim Trail, making an overnight trip an appealing option.

Once you’ve hiked in via the Tahoe Rim Trail, the loop itself begins. It is roughly 3/4 of a mile (one way) to the viewpoint. The trail gains a couple hundred feet of elevation up some switchbacks before then descending to the viewpoint. As the name implies, there is a loop portion of this trail - you can choose whichever direction you want to hike, as it leads to the same place.

The viewpoint is located at the edge of a dramatic rocky outcropping. The views are simply incredible. Sand Harbor Beach is directly below, yet a world away. You can see the entirety of the lake below and the surrounding mountains including the high granite peaks of the Desolation Wilderness.

After you’ve soaked in the view, return the way you came.
