Set within a grassy, park-like meadow shaded by Monterey pine and cypress tress, Plaskett Creek is a well-kept and comfortable campground along Big Sur’s south coast. Located across Highway 1 from scenic Sand Dollar Beach, the main attraction of the area, the campground is popular with beachgoers and surfers.
The campground is laid out around four small loops containing open sites, each occupying a grassy turf. The sites around the perimeter road provide slightly more privacy. Most of the sites have decent access to shade. Plaskett Creek Campground is a popular destination on weekends and holidays, and advanced reservations are highly recommended. The campground is rarely full midweek.
In addition to the 10-minute walk over to Sand Dollar Beach, there are other nearby hiking trails that are accessible from the campground that lead to the bluffs around Jade Cove and Pacific Valley. Keep an eye out for poison oak, as it is pervasive throughout the bluffs of Big Sur.
