Skidaway Island State Park provides one of Savannah's closest camping opportunities. The environment is shady maritime forest--pines, oaks, and palmettos--near the estuarine marsh of Georgia's Intracoastal Waterway. In this compact park, the campground is central to all destinations. Hiking trails, playground, picnic shelters, and a nature center are all nearby. The Sandpiper Loop Nature Trail is especially accessible and good for all abilities.
The campground is organized into four main loops that are interconnected. Sites are all fairly spacious, and some are actually very large. Privacy is limited between some, and some are shadier than others, so take enough time to explore the loops and find the best site. You can register in the visitor center and then enter the campground to select from what is available. All sites have a picnic table, fire ring, grill, electric, and water. Some have full hookups, and there is also a dump station on site. Other amenities include restrooms, hot showers, and coin-operated laundry. ADA sites are available.
