Haipua'ena Falls is a small waterfall and pool along Maui's popular Road to Hana. Thanks to the unsigned trail and short hike over an often muddy path, the pool receives far less visitor traffic than the well-signed falls along the route.
After parking in the small pullout immediately east of a bridge that lies at about a half-mile east of milemarker 11, an opening in the tropical foliage marks the entrypoint, heading upriver from the bridge. The first waterfall lies about 2 minutes down a muddy path and falls about 25 feet into a calm pool. The pool is fine for a quick dip; however, the deep portion is limited to the area at the base of the fall, and the shady environs keeps the pool area cooler and protected from the sunlight.
Just before reaching the fall and pool, a lightly-trod path heads off to the left and up a muddy slope. There is another fall and pool up here there, though it is down an extremely slick, steep, and overgrown slope, and it may not be worth the hike to reach.
