In the hamlet of Marlboro, there’s a valley cutout between the Marlboro Elementary School and Route 9W that is the source of many fond childhood memories for the local residents. Here lies an approximately 30-foot slope that consistently provides fun opportunities for hill-rolling, kite flying, and in the winter, excellent sledding.
Going north on Route 9W, the middle school will be set at the top of a steep hill to the west and the elementary school will be visible beyond the valley to the east. Turn onto Young Avenue at the school sign and traffic light to reach the parking area.
This is a favorite location for parents in the community because it’s easy to keep an eye on their kids from the top of the hill. Whenever there’s a snow day, you can be sure to find the community breaking out their snow gear to get here for the fun.
This school was built in 1960, and the attached Marlboro Intermediate School was completed in 2005. As with all schools, no tobacco products are allowed on the property.
This hill is at the valley base of the Marlboro Mountains. Sediments were deposited in this once shallow marine environment during the late Ordovician period, approximately 450 million years ago.
