The North Campground is one of two campgrounds at the Snake Creek Recreation Area which is located 14 miles west of Platte, South Dakota off South Dakota Highway 44. This drive-in campground has a total of 76 sites. 72 of the sites have electric hookups with 30-amp and 50-amp service. One of the sites is handicap accessible. There is a camp host at site 2E. The campground is by Lake Francis Case, a reservoir on the Missouri River. There are also five one-bedroom cabins available for rent.
The campground is well shaded with mature trees. The sites are somewhat close together. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. Most of the sites in the campground are back-in sites. The pads are paved and are up to 80 feet in length; most of the pads are around 50 feet long. Dogs on a leash are allowed in the campground.
The campground has two bathrooms with showers as well as vault toilets. There is a dump station across Highway 44 from the entrance to the campground. The campground is open year-round; between October. 1 and April 30, showers, flush toilets and other water systems may be shut down.
Most of the recreational activities enjoyed at the Snake Creek Recreation Area center around Lake Francis Case. The water activities enjoyed by visitors include swimming, canoeing, kayaking, boating, and fishing. The park has a fish-cleaning station and a boat launch with a large parking area. There are two playgrounds at the North Campground.
In addition to the camping fees, there is a fee to enter the park; a day use or annual permit can be purchased when you enter the campground. All the sites can be reserved online or by phone. The campground is a popular spot during the summer; especially on weekends.
