Pirates Cove is a popular day-tripping location with ample trails and opportunities to explore. For many paddlers and boaters, the park's campsite is the principal draw, as it sits at a key point connecting the Gulf Islands for paddlers.
Pirates Cove Campsite is located above the meadow that connects the North and South bays. They sit on a bluff overlooking the southern bay or the meadow. Since the meadow can have standing water, it isn't uncommon for the area to get pretty buggy, so be prepared. The sites are spread out along a trail, with most of them being clustered near the stairs and a final site removed a ways north on a small hill. In total, there are eight pads.
As a fairly small campsite, this spot is often very busy, and it isn't uncommon to see pads being shared. If you are in a group please try and use the pads efficiently as there is rarely enough for everyone.
Water can be pulled from a pump by the shore about 100 meters from the campsite. BC Parks recommends treating or boiling the water before use. The area also has the drop toilets nearby. The sing board has information and a small stand where you can deposit the payment stubs for your site.
There is no onsite food storage, which can be challenging as a set of very clever and resourceful raccoons live nearby. Food should be stored in secure bear hangs, bear canisters, or inside your kayak. For more information about the park, please see Pirate Cove Marine Provincial Park.
