The Ranger Loop is a short trail off of the Sussex Branch Trail in Allamuchy State Park.  From the sourthern parking area of the Sussex Branch Trail, pass through the gate and walk .5 miles north.  When the route reaches Jefferson Lake, watch for signage on the left marking the Ranger Trail.  Turn left on the Ranger Loop Trail (red markers).  The trail climbs for a while but levels out and rolls through the old growth forest.

The loop section of this hike is 2.6 miles and returns to the Sussex Branch trail where it started.  Once back on the Sussex Branch trail, turn right and return the way you came to the trailhead.
