Steamboat Hills Hight Point

The route to the Steamboat Hills High Point gives hikers a chance to get off the marked trails and explore the undeveloped hills between south Reno's Galena/Montreaux area and Highway 395. While there are no trail markers or signs, the route is fairly easy to discern, tracing a series of meandering hills and gullies before heading off the double tracks and scrambling up the final slope to the rocky high point of the area.

Ganden Kora

The Ganden Kora circumnavigates the Ganden Monastery located to the east of Lhasa.  This can easily be done as a day trip from Lhasa.  Check with your guide company and let him know when you would like to visit.  Be sure it is added to your initial itinerary as it is now difficult to stray from that.

Meyer Ranch Park Trails

The difference a few miles and a couple of thousand feet can make! Meyer Ranch Park is part of the Jefferson County's (JeffCo) open space series. With 667 acres and a trail network that takes you from soothing meadows to mountain tops, Meyer Ranch Park is an ideal destination for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. There are mellow options for families with younger children and during winter some of the lower loops are ideal for cross-country skiing.

Tenquille-Owl Traverse

Tenquille Lake is a popular Sea-to-Sky hiking location, but lesser known is the Traverse that extends from Owl Lake Recreation area through the alpine, and down the Tenquille. It is a spectacular hike through meadows and boulder fields, and you spend a good chunk of the trip in the alpine. The route has very little actual trail, so it is recommended you have solid navigation fundamentals,. especially in the fall. It can be done in one overnight, though two nights allows for more margin of error and better enjoyment of the scenery.

Bennettville / Fantail Lake

Located immediately before Junction Campground about two miles east of Yosemite's eastern entrance gate is the hiking trail that leads past the gold mining ghost town of Bennettville and on toward a series of small calm lakes along Mine Creek near the base of Mount Conness.

Glacier Canyon to Dana Lake

The hike up Glacier Canyon to Dana Lake may be one of the most surreal and rewarding hikes in the area. Though with that being said, this hike is very strenuous and will definitely make you work for those rewards.

East Ridge of Mount Alpha

If you've ever driven to Whistler, then you will have seen the incredible Tantalus Massif. The long heavily glaciated peaks forms an incredibly beautiful skyline. Mount Alpha is the furthest left on this impressive range, and Alpha's East Ridge is widely considered to be one of the best alpine routes in the area. The 3rd class scrambling is pure fun, with only brief sections of exposure, and one short pitch of technical climbing. The best season for this route is later in the summer once the snow has melted.

The North Coast Trail

The North Coast Trail's reputation as the rugged badder sibling to the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island is well earned. In all ways it is just that more challenging. The sites are wild and remote feeling, and the expensive shuttle keeps the crowds at bay.

Tablelands Loop via "the Bowl" and Winter House Brook Canyon

The Tablelands in Gros Morne National Park are a rare place on earth, where the planet's mantle has been left exposed after the collision of two tectonic plates. In addition to being geologically intesting and signficant, The Tablelands are also a striking and beautiful area with great hiking.

Gros Morne and Bakeapple Pond Hike

The namesake of Gros Morne National Park and the second highest point in Newfoundland, Gros Morne is an imposing and impressive peak and a must-do for many visitors to the park. It offers fantastic vistas and interesting, varied terrain as well as challenging steep climbs. The extension to Bakeapple Pond along a primitive trail adds more incredible views, including a famous vista along Ten Mile Pond.
