Mount Ossa Meadows

Mount Ossa is definitely one of the better scrambles in the Coast Range. It's not an especially well-travelled route, and the long and adventerous approach is daunting to many people. But it is worth it for three hours of continuous good quality hands-on scrambling.

Triple Divide Peak

Triple Divide Peak, also known as the Crown of the Continent, is truly one of a kind. Well, three of a kind technically. It and its sister summits, Mount Snow Dome in Canada’s Jasper National Park and an obscure peak in Northern Siberia, are considered hydrographic apexes, places where water from the tops runs off to three different oceans. The Continental Divide separates the Atlantic watershed to the east from the Pacific watershed to the west. From Triple Divide, which is located along the Continental Divide, water runs to both these oceans as well as to Hudson Bay, which is part of the

Somerset Reservoir

Somerset Reservoir is a large lake in southern Vermont that is nestled deep within the Green Mountain National Forest. The lake is actually a dammed section of the Deerfield River, and is roughly 6.5 miles long and covers 1568 acres. The shoreline is totally undeveloped, but there is a small boat launch, some picnic tables, and a porta potty for those who come to recreate. The lake sits at 2,000 feet above sea level, so it’s a great place to cool off in the summer. The winter snows don’t melt here until May.

Canyon View Loop

The Canyon View Loop Trail is one of three trails inside Kershaw Ryan State Park. While this trail tends to cover much of the same ground as the shorter Overlook Loop Trail, this path will take hikers a little bit further into the canyon and much higher to views overlooking the mouth of the canyon.

Kershaw Ryan State Park's Overlook Loop

The Overlook Trail follows a loop path of just under a mile the climbs from the oasis-like park setting in Kershaw Ryan State Park into the arid canyon above before dropping back into another side of the canyon. Hikers seeking a bit more of a challenge and the wider vistas that come with it may want to hike the Canyon View Trail, which heads further out along this path.
