The Yellow Mounds Overlook in South Dakota’s Badlands National Park has views of beautiful pastel yellow mounds with layers of other colors including pink and gray. The Overlook is located 19 miles west of the Ben Reifel Visitor Center on the Badlands Loop Road (South Dakota Highway 240). This overlook is located within the National Park, so there is an entrance fee that must be paid. The Yellow Mounds Overlook is located on the south side of the road and there is ample parking. There is even parking for RVs and vehicles pulling campers. There are no restrooms or other amenities at this overlook. The overlook is wheelchair accessible.

Visitors are free to explore the colorful mounds near the overlook since Badlands National Park has an Open Hike Policy which allows off-trail hiking. Pets, however, must stay in the parking lot. The colorful terrain around this overlook makes it one of the most popular stops along the Badlands Loop Road.
