Cedar Lake is a cherished recreational area for the residents of Chester, Connecticut. This 80-acre water body is fed by two springs at its northern end, one being the Pattaconk Brook. Its deepest point is located in the middle and drops to about 60 feet.
The primary swimming area is off of West Main Street and has seasonal lifeguard coverage. The park and beach span 0.7 acres and offer 50,000 square feet of water space. The park bears the name of Robert H. Pelletier, a local resident who was the head lifeguard for over 20 years. There is also a food concession with picnic tables and a small pavilion.
A second, unstaffed swimming area is located off of Cedar Lake Road, but no swimming area is designated.
The beaches are maintained by the town, and visitors are required to have a permit. While non-residents may consider the $65 seasonal pass to be a hefty price to pay, local patrons can enjoy the area for free and bring guests for an additional $3 per person. So make some friends!
Triathletes can also enjoy the lake by participating in the annual Cedar Lake Triathlon series. Check out their Facebook page to learn more about their six races from June through August that cover a 500-yard swim, a 10-mile bike loop, and a 3.1-mile run! They encourage all levels of tri-athletes.
