Dunes Beach is the northernmost of Aruba's east side beaches and one of the easiest to reach with a vehicle.
While the west side beaches with their white sand, colorful waters and more development are generally much more suited to the crowds, east side beaches like Dunes give visitors the chance to escape the crowds.
There is no development at Dunes Beach, and it gets its name for the Arashi Sand Dunes which lie nearby. A lone sign standing along the dirt road in is the only constructed improvements of any kind here. The shore is pebbly and the water rough, so swimming is not suggested here. Though it's a short drive from the California Lighthouse, which you can see towering up on the hill above Dunes Beach.
Reaching Dunes Beach requires driving about a half mile down a sandy gravel road. High clearance vehicles are strongly suggested for this. The beach is also a destination for off road vehicle tours heading up the coast from the south.
There are no improvements at the beach aside from the parking area. Visitors are responsible for their own water and to bring adequate protection from the shadeless sun.
