The Lake Baron River Loop is a 1.4 mile trail that traces a portion of the Upper Truckee River along with the shoreline of Lake Baron within scenic Tahoe Paradise Park.
This hike has the benefit of being one of the easier in the area, following a generally flat course. From the parking lot, hikers can proceed up a clear path before taking a fork leading to the edge of the Upper Truckee River. The river portion of the hike follows single track that weaves through grass and beneath pine trees veering off and on of the water's edge. As this park lies a short distance from the busier area of South Lake Tahoe, the environment is usually pretty peaceful, with the exception of park activities or other hikers.
Upon reaching Tahoe Paradise Park, the return route along the edge of the Lake Baron reservoir feels a little less wild and a little more maintained and flat. The lake offers fishing and paddling opportunities to park visitors, and benches placed along its edge provide peaceful areas to sit down and take in the calm mountain valley environment.
A number of other trails branch off from this loop, allowing hikers to modify their route to best suit their needs.
There are no amenities at the parking area or along the trail however Tahoe Paradise Park at the halfway point offers bathrooms, water and general park amenities. This trail is especially scenic at sunrise for those who are early risers.
