Also known as Rocky Beach, Middle Beach is part of a trio of beaches along Beach Avenue in the picturesque Kennebunk area of coastal Maine. Middle Beach lays between Mother’s Beach to the west and Gooch’s Beach to the east. Middle Beach is a narrow and rocky beach composed of mostly smooth pebbles and rocks.
There are three areas where beachgoers can congregate: at the eastern-most edge on the western side of Oaks Neck on a projection near the intersection of Boothby Road and Beach Avenue and at the western end of the beach. Tide pools dot the rocky fringe of each section. Though the beach is composed of mostly smooth pebbles, it is far less crowded than the other surrounding beaches, offers great ocean views, and supports beach chairs as well.
Dogs are permitted on Middle Beach before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m. from June 15 until Labor Day. From Labor Day until June 14, dogs are allowed all day. Dogs should always be within voice control or on a leash.
Parking in the area is very limited and by permit only. Parking can be found along Beach Avenue in parallel fashion all the way around Oaks Neck to the end of Gooch’s Beach. Non-residents must purchase a permit at one of the parking kiosks along Beach Avenue. A day pass for a single vehicle costs $25.00. Parking spots may be more plentiful before 10:30 a.m.
